Indonesia officially launched Southeast Asia’s first-ever high-speed rail on October 2, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.
Ever since the ancient times, Indonesia has been a crucial transit point along the Maritime Silk Road. And it was right here in Indonesia, on October 3, 2013, that the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative was first proposed by China.
Over the past decade, the bilateral ties have been strengthened due to the mutual desire to seek a strong maritime partnership, and to cooperate on infrastructural development. The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway is one of the landmark achievements under the Belt and Road Initiative.
With a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the Jakarta-BandungHigh-Speed Railwaychanges people’s perception and way of commute. It cuts the travel time between the two cities from more than 3 hours to just 40 minutes, and thus driving growth along the way.
